Save Your Thyroid is not only a slogan, it is our mission, a philosophy, and a healthy lifestyle aimed at spreading and promoting the technique and benefits of Thyroid Thermal Ablation as an innovative standard procedure to reduce and avoid unnecessary surgical interventions.

The project’s main goal is to raise awareness among patients, encouraging Thermal Ablation with proper indications, safeguarding the thyroid gland in order to keep its functions unaltered without scars, general anesthesia and without a lifelong need for thyroid hormone replacement therapy!

The use of the most modern technologies and techniques developed by Prof. Spiezia allows to improve the quality of life, drastically reducing pre and post operative complications and improving recovery which is virtually immediate.

Save Your Thyroid is also an educational program, an international school for thyroid ultrasound and ultrasound-guided intervention supported and emanated by the leading Italian society in ultrasound, the SIUMB. It comprises a team of highly experienced specialists coordinated by the Director of school with twenty-five years of experience in thermal ablation for thyroid disorders.

An innovative project

Save Your Thyroid is a project around which various activities revolve, with the only and simple goal of spreading awareness among the population and medical professionals that thyroid nodules can be treated with an innovative, percutaneous procedure that doesn’t remove the gland but shrinks its nodules. This procedure doesn’t require lifelong replacement therapy, leaves no scars, and allows an immediate return to social and work life as it is performed under local anesthesia. Through our social channels (Instagram, TIK TOK), continuous spots are presented, illustrating the essential aspects of thermal ablation to inform people about it as a potential solution to their needs. Other social channels (LinkedIn) convey and disseminate the scientific and technical foundations of our project, referring to scientific meetings on the subject and, above all, the activities of the SIUMB school, whose core business is the training of medical personnel, accurate and meeting the minimum standard requirements set by international guidelines. The presence of SIUMB, of which the school is a direct emanation, guarantees the application of courses according to regulations and up-to-date scientific knowledge. Doctors trained in our school will engage in practical activities and participate in operational sessions, allowing them to independently perform procedures with the possibility of a school tutor assisting them in their initial interventions.

Open to all

Everyone, specialist or not, can enroll in the SYT school, regardless of their knowledge of the technique. You can start from the fundamentals, thyroid ultrasound, then once the necessary skills are acquired through the courses on fine-needle aspirations techniques, you can enroll in dedicated courses (masterclass) on various therapeutic options, Laser, RF or MW and obtain a certification of competence for that technique.

The project requires constant commitment to continuous updating and to keep up with the times, for example: sourcing suitable training support devices so that enrollees can practice on very realistic yet artificial models, continuous updating, and application of data from scientific literature and guidelines.

The founder

The founder of the project is Prof. Stefano Spiezia, Director of the Operative Unit of Endocrine and ultrasound-guided Surgery at the Hospital del Mare in Naples, a modern facility equipped with the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. The hospital provides training on traditional and robotic surgical techniques and all thermal ablation techniques, Laser, RF, and MW, through the school.
Prof. Spiezia is a contract professor at the University of Turin for the university master course in thyroid interventional ultrasound, and since 2022, he has held the role of Secretary-General of the Italian Society of Ultrasounds in Medicine and Biology SIUMB.

Scientific Board

The Save Your Thyroid International SIUMB school, directed by Prof. Spiezia, is based at the Hospital del Mare in collaboration with Dr. Giovanni Antonelli, endocrine surgeon; at the San Carlo di Nancy Hospital in Rome, in collaboration with Dr. Daniela Pace, endocrinologist, and at the IEO Hospital in Milan, in collaboration with Prof. Giovanni Mauri.
